With his hands, Jean-Claude Canonne brings to life a mineral and vegetal universe where the human is revealed: veined mountains of earth, blossoming wall paintings of trees and bamboo, boats at the edge of the sea. Many of his highly acclaimed works can be found in private collections around the world.

Sa maîtrise de la céramique et des émaux est si érudite et rare que le Ministère de la Culture a inscrit Jean-Claude CANONNE à l’inventaire national du Patrimoine Culturel Immatériel.

Turned and modeled forms combine imprints, engravings, colors, textures and calligraphy, resulting from the high-temperature union of clay and enamel, stoneware and porcelain. 

A graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués à l'Industrie, Jean-Claude Canonne completed his training in a number of fields, notably at Master UNG NO LEE's Academy of Oriental Painting. 

He went on to teach ceramics at the CREAR near Chantilly, and has trained many professional ceramists.

He also collaborated for several years with renowned ceramist Daniel de Montmollin on "La Pratique des Emaux de Grès".

In 1996 Jean-Claude Canonne opened his workshop and devoted himself to his own creations on a wide variety of themes:

  • Large-format trunks for intimate shelter; decorative furniture boxes, utility boxes for secrets
  • Imaginary boats, in stoneware and porcelain, inspired by the shapes created by water and man, tools of passage from one shore to the other.
  • Paintings, a synthesis of his long training, including engraving, enamel decorations, layering
  • Landscape mountains, both real and abstract, sometimes concealing an imaginary "view": trees, skies, water reflections, tiny characters...
